I still need to spray paint the pull silver and do a couple of touch ups but, besides that it's as good as it's going to get.

DeleteI have a shorter secretary desk that was my grandmother's, and it's very dark--esp for FL, where I live. I kept thinking I couldn't paint it because of the little cubbies inside, but now you've inspired me to two-tone it. I do wish you would go into more detail about how you did it, though it may seem obvious to you. What exactly is the damask made of and how did you attach it, e.g.? My first visit, thank you!
ReplyDeleteLise, I now have a tutorial of this desk that you can find here

Sure hope it helps you.
Thanks for your interest
Lise, thanks for checking out my post. I'm pretty new at this blogging stuff so I shouldn't assume people just know what I'm doing, sorry, lol. The cubbies inside, I just left the way they were because I new that I would make a mess of them trying to get into all of the little cracks and spaces. The demask is just regular wallpaper that I put on as if I was putting it onto a wall. The paint was a bit of a mix up. I originally started with spray paint. I didn't like the way it was turning out so I switched to regular paint. But, the store told me that spray paint has oil in it so then I had to have some primer added to the paint. Now that I think about it, I think that is what gave the paint a texture that I am not overly happy with. It's my first attempt so I will be more knowledgeable on my next project. I hope I'm more clear here for you, if not, please feel free to ask more questions. I love them! Thanks again.
DeleteP.S. I am going to do another post on this project with a complete DIY. Thanks for the idea.
